| View-Master/Mattel Health Study
*Important Meeting*
Press Release
For Immediate Release
June 17, 2005
Dr. Bill Lambert to answer questions regarding the View-Master/Mattel
Health Study at the June 23 Citizen’s Advisory Group
(CAG) Meeting.
Dr. Bill Lambert is one of the scientists chosen by the Oregon
Department of Human Services (ODHS) to review progress, policy
and methodologies regarding the View-Master/Mattel Health Study.
A study which is anticipated to reveal to what extent the former
View-Master/GAF/Tyco/Mattel workers have
suffered cancer and non-cancer health effects due to their
exposure to high amounts of TCE in the water they drank while
they worked at the Beaverton plant location from the early
1960’s until the plant’s closure in 1998.
This Beaverton plant facility on Hall Blvd. in Beaverton, Oregon
is currently being demolished
In a Feasibility Study, ODHS released in January of
2005; it was found that male workers are suffering 8 times the
incidence of biliary and liver cancers, female workers are
experiencing 6 times the kidney cancer and 4 times the
pancreatic cancer as experienced overall compared to the general
population of Oregon.
By allowing the CAG access to Dr. Lambert, ODHS is
complying with stipulations Victims of TCE Exposure (VOTE) and
the Mattel Citizen’s Advisory Group (CAG) made last winter in
order to maintain the support of the former workers and their
families. This stipulation, among others, requested that ODHS
provides access to members of the ODHS peer review panel
bi-annually. By having access to the panel, the
CAG can feel more connected to the process and gain
better understanding of the study’s progress as well as have
questions answered about their TCE exposure. It is also a time
for the peer review panel to connect with the workers and
families and better understand their concerns regarding their
exposure to TCE.
